TECHLAB (LIGHTING)

A joint project by Nafta Theatre and Uyava space, which will provide basic knowledge in the technical support of theatrical performances.

We are currently experiencing a severe shortage of technical specialists in Kharkiv, and we are more eager than ever to support each other and build a community. Therefore, we want to gather a group of 5-7 of the most motivated and interested people and train you to co-create theatre as Lighting Designers.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
This non-formal education program will provide you not only with a theoretical foundation but also with opportunities for practice, connecting you with other industry professionals and institutions that can offer further work. The sessions will cover the following topics:
● Fundamentals of light theory● Stage lighting techniques● Interactivity with other production elements● Working with controllers and light programming● Working with the director and actor● Writing a lighting score (light cues)
SCHEDULEApril 6 – April 20
Every Saturday and Sunday, approximately 6 hours per day.
Additionally:● One session on Tuesday (4 hours)● One session on Thursday (4 hours)● One joint session with participants of NAFTALAB
The detailed schedule will be sent to the people invited to participate.
YOU WILL LEARN TO:● Use lighting tools and techniques to enhance atmosphere and dramaturgy.● Work on real scenes, adjusting lighting according to the theatrical context.● Upon completion of the program, you will be able to create full-fledged lighting solutions for theatrical productions.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?We are recruiting people who:● Reside in Kharkiv;● Have basic knowledge of lighting technology or a strong desire to learn;● Are interested in the Kharkiv arts scene and want to work and develop in this field.
During the selection process, we will be guided by the principle of gender balance: we expect an equal number of women and men in both groups. Simultaneous participation in both groups is, unfortunately, not possible.
Application Deadline: March 20 (inclusive).
Selection results will be announced via personal email to applicants by March 27.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE PROGRAM?We are preparing additional development opportunities for graduates: participation in professional theatrical projects, advanced training through practical work, and networking for future collaborations with theatre collectives.

The lighting group will work with lighting designers from Nafta Theatre, Kvitka Theatre (Eduard Lobanov), and the Puppet Theatre (Dmytro Prasolov).
