TECHLAB (SOUND)

A joint project by Nafta Theatre and Uyava space, which will provide basic knowledge in the technical support of theatrical performances.

We are currently experiencing a severe shortage of technical specialists in Kharkiv, and we are more eager than ever to support each other and build a community. Therefore, we want to gather a group of 5–7 of the most motivated and interested people and train you to co-create theatre as Sound Engineers. This non-formal education program will provide you not only with a theoretical foundation but also with opportunities for practice, connecting you with other industry professionals and institutions that can offer further work.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
A series of theoretical and practical sessions aimed at beginners in theatre sound engineering. We will study sound equipment and the environment, work with sound effects and backing tracks, organize your own work, and conduct technical rehearsals. Specifically, we will cover the following topics:
● Fundamentals of theatre sound design;● Working with microphones and sound mixing;● Sound accompaniment for a performance;● Rehearsal and live work practice.
In addition, you will visit several different theatre locations in Kharkiv and be able to participate in the rehearsal of the musical performance "Rainbow on Saltivka".
SCHEDULE:April 12 – May 9
Theoretical Sessions:Every Saturday, 10:00 – 14:00
Practical Sessions:Convenient dates and times for 4 practical sessions will be further agreed upon with the selected group.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?We are recruiting people who:● Reside in Kharkiv;● Have basic knowledge of sound engineering or a strong desire to learn;● Are interested in the Kharkiv arts scene and want to work and develop in this field.
During the selection process, we will be guided by the principle of gender balance: we expect an equal number of women and men in both groups. Simultaneous participation in both groups is, unfortunately, not possible.
Application Deadline: March 20 (inclusive).
Selection results will be announced via personal email to applicants by March 27.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE PROGRAM?We are preparing additional development opportunities for graduates: participation in professional theatrical projects, advanced training through practical work, and networking for future collaborations with theatre collectives.
The project is realized with the support of the ZMIN Foundation.

The sound group will be led by Serhiy Kondratiev — a sound engineer with 30 years of experience, founder of the studio @mart_studio_kh.
The group will also have additional sessions with professionals from other institutions.
